TEACHING FEELINGS IN THE CLASSROOM

Teaching children about feelings—specifically how to identify and manage their emotions—is an important part of early childhood education. Social and emotional learning helps children learn how to make friends, manage stress, face difficult situations, and much more. Here are a few social and emotional tools you can use when teaching feelings in the classroom:

EMOTION TILES

For children 12 months and up, Emotion Tiles assist children with learning emotions. The tiles feature real images of people depicting a variety of emotions. Young children can recognize and identify the feeling portrayed on a tile, and then find the matching tile in the set.

FLOWER FEELINGS LEARNING KIT

The Flower Feelings Learning Kit is the perfect tool for teaching feelings to preschoolers and kindergarteners! The kit features eight adorable characters, each with a distinctive facial expression that represents a specific emotion. A booklet that features information about each emotion, fun activity cards, and a sing-along CD about the Flower Feelings are also included.

EMOTIONS PUZZLE SET

Each of the eight puzzles in the Emotions Puzzle Set features a full-color image of a child displaying an emotion and the name of that emotion. Each 12-piece puzzle includes a color inlay to help children correctly place the puzzle pieces.

FACES & FEELINGS BOARD GAME

Take learning emotions to the next level with the Faces and Feelings Board Game. Have children listen to narrative statements, and then place their game token on the image of a child’s facial expression that matches what they’re hearing.

BETTER BUILDER EMOTIONS

The Better Builder® Emotions set features six dramatic play characters with interchangeable parts (hair, head, feet, and bodies). Two blue, two yellow, and two red ball and rod bodies are included in the 30-piece set. Watch the video below for more information.

WORRY EATERS®

Reduce stress and anxiety in children with Worry Eaters®! This innovative social and emotional tool allows children to share their worries, so they can focus on learning. Read “Worry Eaters®: A Must-Have Social and Emotional Tool in the Classroom” for more information on how you can utilize them.

FRIENDS & NEIGHBORS: THE HELPING GAME

Friends & Neighbors: The Helping Game can help children learn to recognize feelings in others. It’s a fun way for children to develop empathy and compassion for others. The game is for 1–4 players and includes four game boards, a guide, and storybook.

UNDERSTANDING FEELINGS LEARNING KIT Help children work on identifying and managing their emotions at home with the Understanding Feelings Learning Kit. The take-home kit helps families explore emotions together and is a great supplement to what children are learning about emotions in the classroom.
